The multidisciplinary minor in Great Books and Ideas (GBI) provides an exploration of the foundational framework for a grounding in the Great Books, as well as an in-depth analysis of key elements in philosophy, religion, literature, and political thought that inform Western Civilization.

Center Information

The Hamilton Center is devoted to research and teaching on Western civilization and the principles of a free society. Here students see past their horizons and prepare for lifetimes of leadership by studying the greatest works of the Western tradition and beyond. Open inquiry and the pursuit of excellence grounded in Western civilization and the American experience are the foundation of an education that will lead our students to thrive not just while at the University of Florida, but throughout their lives and careers. Great Books of the Medieval World
Great Books of Early Modern World: Renaissance to Enlightenment
Thematic Tutorials. Select 3:9
The Thematic Tutorial courses are repeatable and carry variable topics from semester to semester that will be indicated in the schedule of courses. Students should take three different topics to satisfy the minor requirement.
