  • Public Affairs Certificate

    Credits: 15, with minimum grades of C

    The certificate in public affairs is designed for students interested in government careers and requires courses in public policy and public administration.

    Required Courses

    • PAD 3003 Introduction to Public Administration, a core course in public administration; 3 credits
    • PUP 3002 Current Controversies in Public Policies, a core course in public policy;
      3 credits
    • Three 3000/4000-level courses on the policy process (e.g., bureaucratic politics) or
      in a substantive policy area (e.g., health politics and policy or politics and ecology);
      9 credits.

    Students are encouraged to serve an internship in government and to complete an honors thesis in the area of public affairs. Credits earned toward the certificate also count toward the political science major.
