  • Spanish for the Professions Certificate

    Credits: 12, with minimum grades of C

    The certificate in Spanish for the Professions provides students with the linguistic skills and cultural knowledge necessary for working in our increasingly global community, focusing specifically on the Spanish-speaking world. Coursework builds cultural background and communicative proficiency, while providing profession-specific language and experience.

    To be eligible to complete the certificate, students must have a grade of C or better in SPN3300 or SPN 3350, or equivalent background. Nine of the twelve credits must be earned in a UF program.

    Required Courses

    • SPN 3414 Advanced Spanish Conversation 2 (3 credits)
    • SPN 3510 Culture and Civilization of Spain or
      SPN 3520 Culture and Civilization of Spanish America (3 credits)
    • SPN 3948 Spanish Service Learning (3 credits)
    • One 3-credit professional Spanish course (e.g., SPN 3036 Spanish for Health Professions, SPN 3440 Commercial Spanish, SPN 3442 Marketing and Advertising in the Spanish-Speaking World, SPN 3451 Spanish Translation, SPN 3831 Spanish for Legal Professions, SPN 3930 Spanish for Educators)

    Students must also achieve a minimum score of 50 on the Versant Spanish Test (cost to student).
