    IDSSLS

The Cooperative Education Program offers students an opportunity to integrate classroom instruction with practical work experience as a part of their academic program. Students can verify their academic and vocational interests, gain valuable experience in chosen career fields before they graduate and earn income that can be used to defray college expenses.

Co-op work experience must be related to the academic major or career field interest. This work experience is conducted under approved industrial, business, institutional or government agency supervision.

Qualifications: To qualify for a co-op work assignment a student must have completed the freshman year with a minimum 2.0 GPA. The Career Resource Center (CRC) arranges the student's career-related employment and registration in an appropriate co-op work experience course.

Transfer Students: Students who were co-oping at a community college or another university who wish to continue to do so at UF must ordinarily wait until after they complete one semester on campus at UF.

Co-op students may participate in the following work programs:

    • Alternating: The student alternates between a full-time academic schedule followed by full-time work for a minimum of two or three semesters.
    • Parallel: The student, while carrying an academic course load, is also employed in an appropriate job.

Course Offerings: With the exception of the co-op course listed below, all co-op courses are listed by academic department. The junior/senior level co-op course number for co-op is 4949, preceded by the prefix designation of the appropriate department. Qualified freshmen and sophomores register for IDS 4949.
