AI Majors and Minors

As part of the university’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiative, a commitment has been made to incorporate AI in all undergraduate majors and graduate programs. Students can discover their pathway to AI with guidance from their academic advisor.


Information Systems (BS) | Heavener School of Business

The Information Systems major (BSBA-IST) is designed for students who want to be at the intersection between business and technology. IST majors develop the technical knowledge necessary to supply organizations with the information needed to make crucial strategic decisions. The IST curriculum teaches students effective strategies and techniques to analyze, design, and implement information systems. Students interested in IST must possess strong quantitative skills as well as a passion for computers and technology.

Statistics (BS) | College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Data Science is a field of study that combines computer science (programming, databases, and algorithms) and statistical methodology, both with a strong mathematical foundation, to apply to diverse areas in ethical ways. Data scientists work in many areas, including business, economics, medicine, epidemiology, agriculture, environmental sciences, sports, and all aspects of government. With the increasing digitization and networking of society, data have become ever more ubiquitous, further expanding the demand for data scientists and their expertise in the collection, management, and analysis of data.


Bioinformatics | College of Agricultural and Life Sciences

The undergraduate minor in computational biology / bioinformatics. Open to any student in a biology-related major. Currently focused on 'traditional' bioinformatics - sequence analysis, BLAST, phylogeny, functional genomics, metagenomics, etc. - rather than AI. But it's likely that many of the new AI courses will be added as approved electives for the minor.
